LOGGING SAFETY AWARD NOMINATIONS 

            AHUG will be selecting the Outstanding Logger of the Year. There will be no nomination form necessary. The nominations should be submitted in letter form and should include the nominee's name, address and sphone number, who is nominating them and why they feel this person would be a good choice the nominating person's name will be kept confidential. Any support letters or other documentation may be included.

The general criteria for these awards include:  Commitment to safety, overall quality of work, productivity (per man hour), attitude, and work ethic.  Logger of the year candidates will also be judged on industry activism and community involvement.

            The winner will be announced at the 42nd Annual Loggers and Sawmillers Safety Meeting that will be held at the Johnsonburg Firehall on Tuesday, April 6, 2010 with the program beginning at 6:00 p.m.

            Last year’s recipient, John Holt of Kane, was presented with many fine gifts, including a  Stihl chain saw donated by Dave’s Saw Shop, a mounted axe from Ames True Temper, laser-etched plaque, boxed tool set from Kane Napa, engraved ball bat from Brookville Wood Products (BWP) bats, a monetary gift and a one-year membership to AHUG and also gifts from local businesses. 

            Logger of the year will then be entered into statewide competition with award winners from Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), Pennsylvania Forest Products Association (PFPA) and Pennsylvania Forest Association (PFA).  A state winner will be then submitted for regional Forest Resources Association competition later this year. 

Anyone is able to nominate.  Sawmills, foresters, or others such as family members of co-workers are encouraged to nominate.  The Logger of the Year nominations will be followed up by an interview with a selection committee.
